Purpose

I am currently reading the book of Proverbs which is all about wisdom. The thing that calls out to me as I read this book is purpose. One who lacks wisdom cannot have purpose and without purpose, what is the point of one’s life?

Proverbs 10: 4-5 reminded me of what I had been tasked to do this year. I must confess that I have let life take over, gently setting aside my goal for the year. I began this year with the goal of empowering women. I started strong by setting up my blog in January, attended Life Coaching training in March and then it sort of slowed down from there. In a bid to pick things up, I posted a recipe on my blog recently, because I LOVE FOOD, but then, so what? Was that all? Is that enough? The answer is no, and I know this. I left Life Coaching training a changed person, ready to take on the world from a new perspective. All trainees were to complete 50 coaching hours in order to be certified. Initially, coaching hours progressed well and things sort of came to a halt – life happened. I became somewhat consumed with the different hats I wear – wife, mother, daughter, friend and employee (yes I know this is normal, but wearing these hats can take over one’s vision).

There are successful women around the world who also wear different hats. Women like Ibukun Awosika, Folorunsho Alakija, Michelle Obama and Sheryl Sandberg (amongst others) stand out for their achievements regardless of the hats they wear. These women are influencers succeeding in their different fields and impacting lives daily. If they can do this despite their various hats, what about us? Proverbs 16:3 says “commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans”. These and other bible promises are words to hold on to.

I recently attended a coaching network event where I left feeling both motivated and disappointed. Motivated because of the possibilities ahead, disappointed because I have not completed my coaching hours. I left the event saying to myself that I needed to finish what I already started. I have set a deadline for myself and there is no holding me back. I have no excuse as a Christian not to succeed at what God has purposed me to do. For “I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) and “with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27).

I wake up each day with purpose, ready to achieve all, committing each day to God. I have decided to start with small changes daily, overcome any limitations and dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to achieving my purpose. Yes, life will continue to happen, but I will not let it take over or change my course. I choose to impact lives daily, I choose to let purpose drive me. This is my dream, my goal, my purpose.img_8469

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28)
